“CAEP is committed to linking educator preparation to the improvement of P-12 student learning and development in our nation. Addressing the vast gaps that exist in our field in linking specific aspects of educator preparation to educator effectiveness will take massive collaboration, investment, and coordination. This is why the engagement of educator preparation providers in research on what works, what doesn’t work, why, and under what conditions (such as the work undertaken by East Carolina University as part of their Transformation Initiative) is crucial to advancing the field.” Jennifer E. Carinci | Director of Research, Innovation, and Data Strategy Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation
14
UNC General Administration “I would say it’s an important designation for ECU and the UNC system,” said Alisa Chapman, vice president for academic and university programs in the UNC system. “ECU is an exemplar for teacher education, using data and research and innovation to improve their practice.”
15
NC Department of Public Instruction “I am delighted to share with you the phenomenal work of Drs. Diana Lys, Vivian Covington, Ann Bullock, Ellen Dobson and so many others in the College of Education at ECU under the stellar leadership of Dean Linda Patriarca. In keeping with the ECU Pirate CODE theme, North Carolina's "maiden voyage" with the TI pathway was a resounding success! The CAEP site visiting team could have made a recommendation for the Pirate CODE Initiative to be rated as Undefined, Emerging, Progressing, or Well- Defined. The team chose to recommend a status of implementation as Well-Defined, the highest possible rating attainable.” Dr. Debbie Hill, NC DPI State Consultant for CAEP Accreditation Email to Dr. Alisa Chapman and Dr. Lynne Johnson
16
“Each presented the ways in which the framing of edTPA as a cycle of effective teaching focused on student learning has become their “mindset” for approaching their day to day teaching, leadership with colleagues, and communication with parents and the broader school community.” Dr. Andrea Whittaker, Director Teacher Performance Assessment Stanford University Lauren Harvey, ECU Middle Grades Educ. graduate and third- year teacher, and Kelly McLees, ECU Elementary Education graduate and first-year teacher, shared their experiences as part of a Keynote presentation by Barnett Berry of the Center for Teaching Quality.
17
“AACTE is proud of the innovative work being done by teacher education faculty and leaders at East Carolina University to facilitate continuous improvement of their educator preparation programs and forge a collaborative culture that supports research and program development.” (September 2013) Saroja Barnes, Senior Director, Performance Measurement and Research, American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education
