1 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS & CAREER ACADEMIES OXFORD HIGH SCHOOL

2 ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA This one approach to the Alabama High School Diploma removes the need for endorsements or the Alabama Occupational Diploma. The focus will be on the coursework taken that necessitates a clearly articulated and individualized four-year high school plan built for each student based on the results from the EXPLORE academic and career interest assessment and middle school coursework. 2 12-11-12

3 THE OHS CAREER ACADEMIES Students may choose specific course requirements in order to complete an area of academic concentration known as an Academy. These Academies are designed to prepare students for future career opportunities. The Academies offered are Business Technologies, Commercial & Industrial Technologies, Digital Arts, Audio/Visual & Communication Technologies, Engineering Technologies, Health & Sciences, Fine Arts & Languages, Teaching & Learning, and General Studies & Athletics. Students may choose to graduate with honors within an Academy. Students choosing an honors route are encouraged to take honors courses; however honors courses are not specifically required except when they are prerequisites for an AP or DE course. Students must complete four (4) Advanced Placement ( AP ) and/or Dual Enrollment ( DE ) courses and receive an overall 88 GPA by graduation in order to earn honors within an Academy. Specific courses may be required within each Academy.

4 THE ACADEMY OF BUSINESS TECHNOLOGIES This academy is designed for students pursuing college level course work at the two or four year level or entering the world of work in any of the business fields. Pathways Finance Business Information

5 THE ACADEMY OF DIGITAL ARTS, AUDIO/VISUAL & COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGIES This academy is designed for students planning college level course work at the two or four year college level or students entering the world of work. This academy engages students in challenging curricula that will develop technical skills in the areas of Printing Technology, Visual Arts, and Television and Broadcasting. National Standards, credentialing opportunities, and course articulation with postsecondary institutions are available in this academy. 6 THE ACADEMY OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIES This academy is designed for students pursuing college level course work at the two or four year level or entering the world of work in any engineering or robotics fields. Pathways Engineering Robotics

7 THE ACADEMY OF HEALTH AND SCIENCES This academy is designed for students pursuing college level course work at the two or four year level or entering the world of work in any health related, therapeutics, emergency rescue and/or biomedical fields. 8 THE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS AND LANGUAGES This academy is designed for students pursuing college level course work at the two or four year level or entering the world of work in any the following areas: Pathways Instrumental Music Vocal Music Theatre Spanish French

9 THE ACADEMY OF TEACHING AND LEARNING This academy is designed for students pursuing college level course work at the two or four year level or entering the world of work in any childcare, daycare or teaching fields (elementary education, secondary education and/or postsecondary education). Pathways Childcare Teacher Education

10 THE ACADEMY OF GENERAL STUDIES AND ATHLETICS This academy is designed for students pursuing college level course work at the two or four year level or entering the world of work in any field of choice. If a student is not clear or uncertain of the career or postsecondary goals, intensive career exploration is recommended. Career Exploration if Career Goals are unknown Unlimited Pathways: All other careers that do not fall under one of the other academies.

11 THE ACADEMY OF COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGIES This academy is designed for students planning college level course work at a two year program or entering the world of work. Students who finish their two year college level course work may have the opportunity to pursue four year level course work depending on career goals and level of mastery within their college course work. Students have a broad range of pathways and options. This program is designed to provide students with “hands on” trade or technical skills. 13 AUTO COLLISION REPAIR OHS Prerequisites – students will need to take the following courses in addition to core courses in order to enroll in this short certificate program: Collision Repair 1 & 2 (two classes taken the same year) Career Prep

14 WELDING OHS Prerequisites – students will need to take the following courses in addition to core courses in order to enroll in this short certificate program: Career Prep Two of the following: Collision Repair 1 & 2 (two classes taken the same year – this would satisfy the two required necessary) Business Technology (BTA) Engineering 1 & 2

15 AIR CONDITIONING & REFRIGERATION OHS Prerequisites – students will need to take the following courses in addition to core courses in order to enroll in this short certificate program: Career Prep Two of the following: BTA Foundations of Engineering Engineering Applications Multimedia Design Graphic Arts

16 DRAFTING AND DESIGN TECHNOLOGY OHS Prerequisites – students will need to take the following courses in addition to core courses in order to enroll in this short certificate program: Career Prep Two of the following: Multimedia Design BTA Foundations of Engineering Engineering Applications Graphic Arts Digital File Preparation

17 ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY OHS Prerequisites – students will need to take the following courses in addition to core courses in order to enroll in this short certificate program: Career Prep Two of the following: Multimedia Design BTA Foundations of Engineering Engineering Applications Graphic Arts Digital File Preparation
