Communication Weekly Email with important information. Sent home Friday or Monday. Please read. Please let me know if you have not received my test email. Students will complete weekly self-reflections, form or letter format, sent home on Friday. Behavior reflections will be included. My notes may also be included. Please sign and return the Weekly Report on Monday. Completed work and other information will go home on Friday.

Language Workshop Sample of what your child will be working on this year: Write opinion pieces supported by facts and details. Write information texts with a well developed topic and precise language. Produce functional writing such as experiments, letters, book reviews. Conduct research projects, incorporating several sources. Summarizing and synthesizing info. Write a narrative with clear sequence of events and dialogue. Create poetry. Draw evidence from literary or informational text to support reflection and research.

Defined STEM, and Engineering is Elementary- with focus on the design process and creating solutions.

Homework Expectations 4 th Grade: 40 minutes nightly. Homework: Math homework is assigned Monday-Wednesday and is due the following day. Report Cards Report cards are given out quarterly. The grading scale is A, B, C, D, F. Grades consist of class work, homework, tests, projects, and presentations. Tests directly reflect what we have been learning in class. Homework, Class work and/or notes can be kept to help review. Rubrics/scales specifying requirements for A, B, C…are used for projects and presentations. Classwork and homework may also be graded based on percent, but are not weighted as heavily as tests and projects. Writing gets graded based on the 6 Traits of Writing. Spelling is incorporated into writing and writing grade.

Missing Work If homework is not completed, this may be noted in agenda. If work is not completed by Friday, student will miss Goal Club and complete missing work in study hall. This also applies to work that needs to be redone, due to quality issues. (incomplete or not personal best).

Clip Chart Emphasizes the importance of making good choices Promotes positive behavior and encourages students to self-monitor their choices Allows students to be acknowledged for positive behavior, and provides a sense of accomplishment for students who are able to “clip up” Allows students who have “clipped down” an opportunity to “clip back up” during the day-they continue to stay motivated. Clipping down from time to time is to be expected and can be an important learning opportunity for your child.

Online Grading You can monitor your child’s grades online. I will notify you if I am concerned about your child’s progress.
