2  New Visions is a New York State approved curriculum  Purpose is to provide Seniors an opportunity to explore a specific career while doing college level work  Students learn knowledge related to their field in classroom setting  Students do Field Experience Rotations with people working in the field and gain real world experience  Field trips and speakers provide more knowledge about careers and opportunities

3  Large group of teachers retiring (baby boomers)  High demand in some locations  High demand for science and math teachers  High demand for special education teachers

5  Meet from 8-12 Every Day  Mahopac Falls Elementary School Classroom  Field experience with Mentor teachers October through June (K-12, ELL, Special Education, Administration and Counseling)  Field trips and guest speakers, college visits  Student Research Project School Districts provide transportation to Mahopac Falls Elementary and Field Experience Rotations, must be arranged in advance by family.

10  Learn if Education is the right field for you to study in college  Small class size-- teacher attention, study your interests in depth  Prepare you for college  Obtain 12 college credits  Learn how to do educational research  Do your own research  Work in the field with students and teachers

11 We learn: to teach to manage a classroom to develop curriculum to meet individual student’s needs to assess learning to deliver a lesson to find out who we are as teachers

12  Becoming a Teacher (college level textbook)  Projects include such things as:  History of Education timeline  Observation of teachers  Design a great school  Overcoming oppression workshop  Reading Circle (present good books for each grade level)  Create an assessment  Teaching lessons for different grade levels  Develop your own philosophy

13  Textbook used is Child Development and Education (college level text)  Learn about physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of the child, birth through grade 12  Apply knowledge gained to inform teaching

14  Classes run similar to college seminar  Reading in Honors English related to the field of education  Honors Economics and Honors Participation in government is applied to educational issues

15  New Paltz Future Educators Conference  Guidance Expo  Pinesbridges School  Center for Visual Management  Teachers at various school for mini-workshops  College visits such as Marist College, Bank Street College, Lehman College  Director of Special Education  School Principal  Human Resources Director

16 Rotations are Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays for 5 days at each rotation:  Kindergarten  First or Second Grade  Upper Elementary (3-5)  Middle School (6-8)  High School  English Language Learners  Special Education  School Administrators, School Counselors, Special Services  One Month Rotation of student’s choice

17  Student Independent Research Project  Students learn to do research paper  Students conduct their own research in the field of education  Students present their study to students and faculty

21  Students who have an 85% or better from home school  Log on to the PNWBOCES.org website, go to parents and do the on- line application (you will need the code from your school counselor)  2 letters of recommendation  Interview by New Visions Panel (begin in February)  Writing sample

22  Able to work independently  Interested in working with students  Desire to do something different senior year  Interested in hands-on learning
