6 Key Terms: Revelation Inspiration Canonization Textual Reconstruction Translation Illumination Application Instruction CHAPEL UNIVERSITY

7 Theories of Inspiration:
Natural - inspired like other great literature or music. Illumination - inspired like other great Christian writing. Dictation - writers were passive conduits for God’s words. CHAPEL UNIVERSITY

8 Theories of Inspiration:
Partial - some inspired but not all.. Conceptual - not the precise words, just the ideas. Neo-Orthodox - becomes the Word of God when experienced.. CHAPEL UNIVERSITY

9 Theories of Inspiration:
Verbal Plenary Inspiration is God’s superintendence of the human authors so that, using their own individual personalities, they composed and recorded without error His revelation to man in the words of the original autographs. CHAPEL UNIVERSITY

10 2 Timothy 3:16-17 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. CHAPEL UNIVERSITY

11 1 Peter 1:20-21 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. CHAPEL UNIVERSITY

12 Matthew 5:18 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. CHAPEL UNIVERSITY

13 Key Issues: Canonicity – The word canon means rule or measuring rod, it refers to the collection of books which passed a test of authenticity and authority. CHAPEL UNIVERSITY

14 Key Issues: Interpretation – The basic principle of interpretation is to interpret plainly and in the normal sense intended by the author. This is like the strict constructionist’s interpretation of the US Constitution. CHAPEL UNIVERSITY

15 Key Issues: Accuracy & Reliability CHAPEL UNIVERSITY

16 Key Implications: CHAPEL UNIVERSITY
If you were Satan WHY would you attack the Bible? If you were Satan HOW would you attack the Bible? CHAPEL UNIVERSITY
