In slovakia brides often choose white wedding dress Usually there are 80 - 150 wedding guests People prefer wedding in a church The couple exchange their wedding rings We decorate a wedding car too Wedding

We celebrate our birthday We usually have a party at home We have a birthday cake with candles and our friends are singing ´´Happy B-day´´ We get some presents We decorate our house with baloons Birthday

People become Christians and members of the Church The priest is pouring holy water on the head of a baby The whole family is in a church with a godmother or a godfather The godparents buy a candle and a small white shirt for the baby Baptism

In Slovakia there is an annual celebration in every village or town We eat duck, cabbage and special crustless bread named ´´knedľa´´ We eat cakes We go on carrousels In the evening we go to the village party Annual Village / Town Celebration

Christians or non - Christians celebrate this holiday We decorate Easter eggs In the morning on Easter Monday, men whip women with so called ´´ korbáč´´ which is made of willow tree birches Men can pour a bucket of cold water on any woman Easter

Christmas dinner in Slovakia is celebrated on 24 December The traditional dinner includes oblátky (thin waffles with honey or garlic), cabbage soup ( kapustnica) with dried mushrooms and sausage (sometimes with dry plums), carp or other fish with potato salad, apples and Christmas biscuits After the dinner we open presents under the Christmas tree Christmas

In Slovakia, people don’t celebrate Thanksgiving We have our own special festival ‘Fasiangy’- a big carnival between January and April People celebrate the coming of spring, eat good food and have fun with their friends This holiday is followed by 40 days of fasting On celebrations like these, Slovaks still sometimes wear their folk costumes Fašiangy

During All Saint’s Day, Slovaks return home Entire families go to the cemeteries, graves are covered with flowers and candles. It’s a day to remember deceased family members All Saint´s Day
