5 Why a project proposal? Defines project’s strategic plan Authorization from project sponsor to project team to spend resources Defines the project team’s pace and expendable resources ($$ or man hours) Consensus between team and project sponsor

7 Sections of Project Proposal 1.Goal – problem statement, WHY 2.Objectives – requirements, background, benefits, in-scope and out of scope, WHAT 3.Recommendations – state all possible solutions with reasoning HOW 4.Project plan – Milestones with dates 5.Roles and Responsibilities

8 Sections of Project Proposal (continued) Success factors – risks stated, assumptions stated Signatures – authorizes the project team to go forward and be successful

9 Operations verses Projects Both are – performed by people –Constrained by limited resources –Planned, executed and controlled Differences are –One is on-going/repetitive –One is temporary/unique

10 Project Management PM is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities in order to meet or exceed key stakeholder needs or expectations.
