Global African Gateway - goal Cape Town is the only city in the world on “two oceans”; long known as The Tavern of the Seas it is also the gateway to Africa. We need to embrace our identity as a global African City It can be seen as where East meets West, and North meets South – where the best minds of developed & developing worlds exchange ideas, challenges & opportunities. Where global businesses desire to have regional headquarters; where trade with Africa is facilitated.

Global African Gateway ObjectivesStrategiesPlans (3 horizons) Most sought-after convention centres in Southern Hemisphere by 2015. Market CT as the new global meeting place 1 6-Star “Platinum” CTICC extension 1 2010 campaign 1/2 Bring Tourism Indaba to CTN Double direct flights to African & key global cities by 2012. Engage with airlines & government Lobby government/policy makers to grant 5 th freedom rights to CTN 1 Direct flights to key hubs (inc. Lagos, Nairobi, Dubai, London, New York, Shanghai …? 50% more global & regional HQs by 2012 Market CT internationally as the business gateway into and out of Africa Engage with/lobby government to structure focused investment incentives Focus on hi-tech, renewable energy, financial services, consumer goods & pharmaceuticals Encourage active lobbying by ACT members to attract & retain businesses in CTN 1 International roadshow (with particular focus on the east?) 1 Encourage a grouping of famous business-people to market CTN 1 Market CTN schools 1 Market CTN as a place “where thinking people work, and working people think” 1 Communicate positive stories of companies setting up HQ in CTN (rather than only the few that are leaving)
