Geological Features Desert- An extremely dry region with about little to no plant life present. About 1/3 of Earth’s landmass is desert. Often created because they are located in a rain shadow. Usually have less vegetation to prevent erosion. Includes alluvial fan, arroyo, bajada, blowout, butte, desert pavement, desert varnish, dunes and flash floods. characteristics: sparse vegetation & animals, cacti, succulents, drought tolerant, reptiles, insects, rodents, birds

Temperature Not much precipitation; occasional showers Variable daily & seasonally, hot & cold

Types of Plants Cactus, Mesquite, Creosote, Ocotillo, Desert Ironwood, Joshua Tree, Jumping Cholla, Mojave Aster Most plants are drought resistant.

Human Impact on desert A human activity that hurts the desert is off roading. The reason why off roading hurts the desert is: They leave tracks in the desert The tracks kill plants, and the animals can’t eat dead plants It also kills animals that hide in the sand
