2. We’re continuing our journey through God’s big story, and we’re right in the middle of learning about Jesus’ life here on earth. Though Jesus was God’s Son, He studied and learned like other children. By the time He grew up and was baptized in the Jordan River, He knew God’s Word and always listened to God. 3. In this story, we have two primary people: Jesus and the devil. We know quite a lot about Jesus, but we don’t talk about the devil very much, so I want to talk to you about him for a few minutes so we know who Jesus was up against. Lucifer, Satan, Angel of light, Beast, Apollyon, Beelzebub, Belial, Deceiver, Evil one, Father of lies, God of this age, King of the bottomless pit, lawless one, Liar, Little horn, Man of sin, Murderer, Power of darkness, Prince of the power of the air, Ruler of darkness, Serpent, Ruler of this world, Son of perdition, Tempter, Theif and Wicked one, and more…

4. When we think of the devil, what is the picture we have of him in our mind? Satan, who is he? This however is not the picture the Bible has of this powerful enemy of God. I don’t want to show a lot of pictures of what Satan might have looked like, but we know in the first reference to him, he was in the form of a Serpent.

5. In other references, he appeared as an angel of light, a man, a demon and others. The one thing we need to keep in mind is… he is a worthy adversary! BUT… he is not to be feared and, he will ultimately be defeated! Satan, who is he? In fact, the last look we have of the old devil, he is being chained and thrown into the bottomless pit, where he be forever and forever. Revelation 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

6. Luke 4:1-13 4 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. The Temptation of Jesus
