There was a decorated general with a heart of gold, that likened him to all the stories he told of past battles, won and lost, and legends of old a seasoned veteran in his own timeheart of goldveteran

On the battlefield, he gained respectful fame with many medals of bravery and stripes to his name he grew a beard as soon as he could to cover the scars on his face and always urged his men onfamemedalsname

but on the eve of a great battle with the infantry in dream the old general tossed in his sleep And wrestled with its meaning he awoke from the night to tell what he had seen and walked slowly out of his tentgreat battletent

all the men held tall with their chests in the air, with the courage in their blood and a fire in their stare it was a gray morning and they all wondered how they would fare till the old general told them to go homewith the courage in their blood and a fire in their stare

But the men stood fast with their guns on their shoulders not knowing what to do with the contradicting orders the general said he would do his own duty but would extend it no further the men could go as they pleased guns

not a man moved, their eyes gazed straight ahead till one by one they stepped back and not a word was said and the old general was left with his own words echoing in his head he then prepared to fightgeneral

The Dispatch Back The dispatch has three members in their band, Brad Corrigan, Pete Heimbold and Chad Urmston. They have been performing, writing, and recording since 1995. They started off in Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. They have a reggae and funk feel to their music. They first started spreading there music by going to colleges and academies through the Northeast. Then they started to spread to the east coast and all over and soon everyone started loving the dispatch. They have released four albums; all of these are on their own label, Bomber recorders. In July 2005 The Dispatch came out with a movie called The Last Dispatch this was their final 12 days as a band and it tells the story of how they became a band. The band got back together in 2007 and went on another tour.

Veteran Back A veteran is someone who has served in the armed forces

Metaphor Heart of gold is a metaphor because it is comparing two things without using like or as, this is saying that his heart is like gold which means that he is nice and does not have a mean bone in his body back

Rhyme respectful fame with man medals of bravery and stripes to his name is a rhyme because fame and name are rhyming words back

Great Battles There were many great battles during WWII some of which were the Battle of Normandy, Battle of Atlantic, Battle of Britain, Battle of Midway, Battle of El Alamein, and the Battle of Iwo Jima Battle of Atlantic back

Hyperbole back With the courage in their blood and a fire in their stare is a hyperbole because it is exaggerating that there is courage in their blood and fire in their stare because there is not courage in their blood and fire in their stare

back Repetition Take a shower, shine your shoes you got no time to lose you are young men you must be living is considered repetition because it is repeated several times within the song
