MURMANSK REGION Location: in the North-West of the European part of Russia. Almost the whole territory is located on the Kola Peninsula, above the Arctic Circle. The region is washed by the Barents Sea and the White Sea. In the West and the North-West it borders on Finland and Norway, in the South-West –on the Republic of Karelia. Area – 144,9 thous. km² (0,85 % of the total area of Russia) Population As of – 777,1 thous. people (0,5 % of the population of Russia) Administrative center– City of Murmansk – the largest city above the Arctic Circle in the world (population as of – 299,1 thous. people) 2
