3
Temperate and rainfall data(graphs)
- Places with the polar climate only experience summer and winter. - Places like Antarctica, Siberia, Arctic and the two poles. - Experience very low temperatures. - Lowest temperature is degree celsius. - air lacks water vapour for formation of clouds.
5
Which places have polar climate?
6
Which places have polar climate?
Northern Hemisphere -Arctic -Northern Canada -Northern Siberia Southern Hemisphere -vast mountainous continent of Antarctic
7
Polar climate -usually enclosed by snow and ice all through the year.
-temperature never rises above freezing point due to lack of sunshine in this area. -generally dry which settles the cold air which lacks moisture, preventing from further clouds formation and snowfall. - regions get almost 10 inches or 250 millimeters of precipitation annually.
8
Polar Climate -areas near to the North and South Poles are quite cold as the place has accumulated thick ice sheets with several years down the line. -ice sheets in the Southern Hemisphere are more than that found along the Northern Hemisphere.
9
Siberia
10
Siberia Climate in the North of Siberia -varies dramatically.
-On the north coast, north of the Arctic Circle, there is a very short (about one-month-long) summer Climate in the southernmost part of Siberia -long and cold winters -fairly warm summers lasting at least four months.
11
-Annual average temperature
Siberia -Annual average temperature -0.5 °C (32.9 °F) -January averages about −15 °C (5 °F) -July about +19 °C (66 °F) daytime temperatures in summer typically are above 20 °C
12
Siberia’s seasons -mainly winter and summer
13
Siberia’s rainfall - 442 mm for the whole year - generally low
- majority of rain is seen through june to august
14
Canada
15
Northern Canada -low temperatures In the Yukon
- average daily temperatures of 0 degrees Fahrenheit in January, the coldest month in Whitehorse - 57 degrees Fahrenheit in July, the warmest month. In the Northwest Territories -January average daily temperature in Yellowknife is -16 - average daily temperature in July is 62 degrees Fahrenheit.
16
Northern Canada In the Nunavut province, the city of Iqaluit
- daily average of -18 degrees Fahrenheit in February - daily average of 45 degrees Fahrenheit in July.
17
Seasons Spring -Approx. March 21
-The sun rises higher and higher in the sky. Summer -July and August degrees celcius - Daylight throughout.
18
Seasons Autumn -September 21
-The sun sinks below the horizon, and it is twilight till early October. Winter - early October to early March - -30 degrees celcius - covered in snow and ice - dark all day long

Interesting facts The name ‘Arctic’ comes from a Greek word meaning ‘near the bear’. The coldest recorded temperature in the Arctic is around −68 °C (−90 °F). Because it experiences such little rain, Antarctica is considered a desert. The coldest recorded temperature on Earth occurred in 1983 at Vostok Station, Antarctica, measuring a rather chilly −89.2 °C (−128.6 °F).
