2.4 Solving Equations with Variables on both sides
Students will be able to solve equations with variables on both sides
2
Rules Move variables on one side of equation and constants (numbers) on the other side.
3
Example k+1=3k-1
4
Solve 8 + 5c = 7c – 2
5
You Try- 9f – 6 = 3f + 7
6
Solve by Grouping 1) Distribute first 2) Combine Like Terms
3) Then get all the variables on one side and the constants on the other.
7
Solve:
8
Solve
9
Example 5m- 3 = 1m + 7
10
You Try .7z z = z
11
Example 12y + 6 = 6(2y + 1)
12
You Try 8z = 4(2z+1)
13
Set-up an equation and Solve
Currently, you have $80 and your sister has $145. You decide to save $6 of your allowance each week, while your sister decides to spend her whole allowance plus $7 each week. How long will it be before you have as much money as your sister?
14
You Try The membership fee for joining a gardening association is $24 per year. A local botanical garden charges members of the gardening association $3 admission to the garden. Nonmembers of the association are charged $6. After how many visits to the garden is the total cost for members, including the membership fee, the same as the total cost for nonmembers?
15
Find the values of x so that the figures have the same area.
6 10 3x x
