SOCIAL MEDIA : RONICA CLARK It is the social interaction among people in which they create, share or exchange information, ideas, and pictures/videos in virtual communities and networks. The most common are Twitter, Facebook and Instagram

FACEBOOK: RONICA CLARK Studies show that Facebook accounted for 58.88 percent of all social media site visits in September 2014. 50.2% of California’s internet population are Facebook users, and 54.2% of Georgia’s internet population are Facebook users.

FACEBOOK COMPARISON: RONICA CLARK 56% of UK consumers use Facebook. In the UK, there’s an estimated 479 minutes per month being used on Facebook by each user. In the US, the average daily time spent on Facebook is 21 minutes, which is 651 minutes per month. US figures showed that one out of three people in the US were visiting Facebook every day.

TWITTER: MATT FITZSIMMONS 6 of the top ten fastest growing cities are from the US, with New York City leading the way. Twitter is the new hottest social media trend with Facebook, Instagram, MySpace, Linkedin, and Google+ trailing.

TWITTER COMPARISON: MATT FITZSIMMONS Per Capita the UK ranks 4th in the world to the US 5th However 62% of the people in the US have and use Twitter compared to only 8% in the UK. The UK is second highest in social media use per capita with a whopping 57%.

WHAT IT MEANS: US VS. UK MATT FITZSIMMONS The UK elder generation has taken to social media use much more than that of the US. The use of social media however is very similar, and with advertising and information, looks to be here to stay with both countries. The true effects of the social media are global.

INSTAGRAM FACTS DEANDRE FULLER Instagram launched in October of 2010. It was acquired by Facebook in 2012. Over 50% of the Instagram population is located outside of the United States. It’s most commonly used of adults aging 18-29.

INSTAGRAM COMPARISON: DEANDRE FULLER Nearly 3.5 million people in the US accessed Instagram at least once per month in 2013. Around 340,000 Instagram users are from the UK. 53.5% Instagram users are in the United States. 4.0% Instagram users are in the United Kingdom.

CONCLUSION With all the variety of social media, there is no end in sight to the social media craze. Expanding the depth of social media has its pitfalls, but ultimately brings communication to a higher level around the globe. Social Media is here to stay and grow and can help society.
