3 Financial Literacy Our Purpose Mission: To foster community prosperity by enhancing the knowledge and skills Central Texans need for improved financial decision-making Vision: To be recognized as a trusted, unbiased, and credible source of personal financial information

4 Financial Literacy Our Organization 501(c)(3) since 2004 12 member Board of Directors / 4 Staff Over 40 volunteer Instructors –Limited number are bilingual Over 25 Host Partner Organizations In-kind support provided by the Travis County Extension Service (part of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service)

5 Financial Literacy What We Do Provide free basic financial education classes in English and Spanish to Host Partner organizations in the Austin area –Provide one class on a particular topic, or a full series depending on the needs of the organization Focus is on low-income adults and youth Use nationally recognized financial literacy curriculums –Money Smart – 11 modules –All My Money – 8 modules –Wi$e-Up – 8 modules

7 Financial Literacy All My Money Targeted to limited-resource unbanked individuals, or those in need of basic financial literacy –Making Spending Choices –Envelope Budgeting –Planning Your Spending –Understanding Credit –Handling Credit Problems –Building Consumer Skills –Taking Consumer Action –Managing a Checking Account

8 Financial Literacy Wi$e-Up Targeted to Females, ages 20 to 30 –Money for Life –Money Math –Money Basics –Credit in a Money World –Savings Basics –Insurance and Risk Management –Becoming an Investor –Achieving Financial Security

9 Financial Literacy Who We Recruit Volunteer Instructors –Individuals complete a 9-hour Train-the-Trainer course –We provide instructors a path to become ‘Certified’ –We select individuals who have a financial acuity Host Partners –Organizations that desire FLCCT to provide financial education classes to their constituents and/or staff –Partners organize the class of participants –Partners provide the classroom location

10 Financial Literacy Who We Recruit Educational Partners - FLCCT also provides Train-the-Trainer instruction designed to meet the needs of other organizations such that their staff can instruct their own constituents

11 Financial Literacy How We Educate Scheduling of Classes –Host Partner determines class location, date, time, and curriculum –FLCCT assigns a qualified instructor to teach the class and provide all instructional materials In 2012, FLCCT instructed 1,462 individuals via 159 classes (on average - 13 classes & 122 students/month) Class Delivery –Instructor conducts interactive instruction –Instructor administers individual pre / post-quizs –Participants each complete a course critique and instructor critique
