17 Every year up to 120,000 women and children are brought into the European Union by people traffickers. Most are tricked into leaving their homes with promises of a better life. Some are simply abducted. All are destined for exploitation. Once there, they are forced into prostitution or used as a source of cheap labor by unscrupulous employers, in sectors ranging from domestic work to farming, manufacturing and construction.

18 UNICEF estimates that 200,000 children from West & Central Africa are sold into slavery each year. In India, between 200,000 & 300,000 children are Kidnapped from their villages when they are as young as five years old, and held captive in locked rooms and forced to weave on looms for food. Domestic trafficking is the biggest problem in China, with an estimated minimum of 10,000 to 20,000 victims trafficked internally each year. International organizations report that 90% are women and children
