Levels of Organization
2
California Content Standard Standard 1: All living organism are composed of from just one to many trillions, whose details usually are visible only through a microscope.
3
Anatomy & Physiology The anatomy and physiology of plants and animals illustrate the complementary nature of structure and function.
4
Plant and Animal Organization 5a. Plants and animals have levels of organization for structure and function, including cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, and the whole organism.
5
Function of Organ Systems 5b. Organ systems function because of the contributions of individual organs, tissues, and cells. The failure of any part can affect the entire system.
7
Think, Pair, Share What does organization mean to you? How is anatomy (body structure) related to physiology (function) in an organism?
8
Activity I Classify the following organisms into groups of either unicellular or multicellular organisms. Use the Inspiration application to create a graphic organizer to divide these organisms into their specific category. Title each group with an appropriate heading. Follow up Question What criteria did you use to sort out the organisms into smaller groups? Explain. What group would you place Homo sapiens? Why?
11
Activity II What are the levels of organization in a multicellular organism? If you were able to look inside human body what do you think you would find? Make a list. What tools do you need to help you in this investigation? Make a list and explain why you chose each tool?
