ASFH Berlin Institution of Higher Education with a unique history: founded by Alice Salomon; prominent leader of the German middle class women‘s movement; History of the school is deeply rooted in the history of social work in Germany.

ASFH - Berlin Alice Salomon was a top representative of the German (»Bund Deutscher Frauenvereine«) as well as international women’s movement (»International Council of Women«); one of the first women receiving a PhD degree; first contributor to the theory of social work. In 1932 she was awarded the highest honour by the Prussian state, in 1933 stripped of all her duties, in 1939 forced into exile, died in New York in 1948. Since 1992 the State Fachhochschule/University of Applied Sciences for the social professions in Berlin carries her name.

The historical building in Berlin- Schöneberg still exists; It houses an archive. Today‘s ASFH premises are located in Berlin Hellersdorf. Hellersdorf is a unique Berlin neighborhood, the biggest suburb in EAST-Germany. More than half of our students now come from the territory of the former GDR.

ASFH - Berlin The building is newly erected (1996); it is part of the central Hellersdorf square which unites all the shopping, service, and communication facilities of the area. The interior design allows for spacious, light-flooded rooms and a cafeteria in the middle of everything. The equipment is state-of-the-art, including generous computer facilities, theatre room, music room, photo lab, and art/craft room.
