3 Okina ‘Okina’ is most important play of cerebration in Noh. It is important, because it developed from ‘Okina Sarugaku’ – it was the Origin of todays Noh. And it was a very important ritual dance performance at the shrines and the temples. Sarugaku-actors undertook to perform the ritual dance to purify the place by exorcizing the evil-spirits and to pray for the protection of the land, prosperity and a huge harvest. The Walkway(Hashigakari) linked dressing room and Stage, it also has the idea of linking intangible world with real world. All Copyright©2014.IFSJ

9 What was the innovation of ZEAMI in Sarugaku? All Copyright©2014.IFSJ From the Beast(Oni) to the celestial Beauty(Tennyo) The performance of Yamato- sarugaku which Zeami belonged to was more acrobatic and bold than others. Performing ‘Oni’ (beast-like being) was characteristic of Yamato sarugaku. But the audience favored elegance and grace more than exciting acrobats and bold performances, so, Kannami and Zeami adopted elegant dances from other performance arts into Yamato sarugaku. And not only integrated them with their original performances, they refined their grace in order to reach ‘Yugen’.
