5 EASY STEPS TO READING A FOOD LABEL 1) what is the serving size ? 2) how many calories ? This is how much energy you get from the serving. 3)Look at the % DV – percent of daily value. It tells you if there is a little or a lot of that nutrient in the serving. A higher number means more. 40% is high, 5% is low 4) Get less of these Fat, saturated fat cholesterol Sodium ( salt) 5) get more of these carbs,fibre,vitiminA and c, calcium, protein, iron.

WORDS TO WATCH FOR AKA ALSO KNOWN AS …. nutrientAKA …on the label 4) Sugars 4) fructose, sucrose, maltose, lactose Honey Liquid sugar invert sugar syrup, galatose, dextrose, dextrin, corn syrup solids, molasses, raisin syrup. Watch for words ending in “ose” For sugar alcohols watch for words ending in “ol” like sorbitol
