“Livebinders.com” Robert Dow, Jr. Professional School Counselor Bruce Elementary “How can the use of online portfolios assist professional school counselors with organization and gathering?”

Context for presentation – Include the WHY and WHAT. “Even though billions of dollars are being spent on connecting schools with information infrastructure, school counselors need to be more actively involved in implementing computer technology. Computer technology can significantly affect the work of counselors in the areas of information retrieval and dissemination, distance learning, college and career exploration, counseling interventions, networking and support systems, and training and supervision.” Van Horn, Stacy M.; Myrick, Robert D. 11 Once you have logged in you can view the tutorial or begin creating your binder. To begin, click on the tab at the top of the screen. Give your new binder a name and a description of what it is for. Click on “Create New Binder”.

Next, you will create the tabs for your binder. I used the indicators from the evaluation rubric as my tabs. Click on the button to create a new tab as well as additional tabs.

You can give each tab its own color! Just click on the tab and then click on the upside down, red triangle. Next, click on “Set Tab Color”.

Now, just like with your portfolio hard copy you can begin to insert artifacts. To do this, you will need to click on the button. And just like you with your main tab, give it a name.

Click on your sub tab, then click on the button. This will allow you to add content to your tab. Create a new sub tab for each new artifact. When your done click on the next main tab and repeat.

Tips! Click “Save” as often as possible to make sure that you save your work. Click on a tab or sub tab and use the delete option to get rid of that tab or sub tab that you may have made a mistake on. Before adding a document, it’s best to convert it to PDF format prior to uploading it to a sub tab.

Tips! If you want to upload multiple pictures on the same sub tab, insert them to a Word document. Convert the Word document to PDF format. Single pictures can be easily uploaded when adding content. You don’t have to give up your hard copy, you can share your online portfolio without the fear of binder being lost!
