21  One of the keys to increasing diversity is to increase the diversity of the applicant pools.  While the overall diversity of the workforce is increasing, the demographics are shifting.  The percentage of Hispanics has increased.  The percentage of African-Americans has decreased.  The number of employees reporting disabilities has decreased significantly, from 10% in 2001 to 4.5% in 2008.

22  Requirement for all positions: demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to and appreciation for the academic, ethnic, socio-economic, disability and gender diversity of community college students (required by EC87360 for administrators and faculty)  Broad recruitment  Training for all hiring committees on the principles of Equal Employment Opportunity  Speakers and activities on diversity related topics  Updating the EEO Plan  Bilingual requirements for identified positions

23  Update hiring processes, with special emphasis on adjunct faculty  Implement new EEO Plan  Continue exploring new recruitment sources  Working with the EEO Advisory Committee, continue to investigate programs and speakers which may enhance understanding of diversity  Monitor the demographics on an annual basis
