The “paret” is THE typical sled of the valley of Thônes. In the past, children used it to go to school in winter. It’s made of wood. The “Paret” of Manigod, a small village close to Thônes, is very famous. An international “Paret” competition takes place near Thônes every year.

Le Plateau des Glières
14
During the Second World War a group of French Resistants bravely fought the Germans on « Le plateau des Glières », a mountain area near Thônes. Since then this place has become a national symbol of heroic resistance. The leader of this group of Resistants was Tom MOREL. “Live free or die” is the motto of this place. Here is an important monument to commemorate the events of the Second World War. The “V” symbolises the victory (victoire, in French), and the circle represents the sun which means the “renouveau” (French word for renewal).
