How the Seminar is Conducted
Seminar time is limited and goes by quickly Please review Our Seminar Protocol (in Doc Sharing) and Netiquette Please adhere to the following guidelines to be sure that we can cover everything for the week!
11
How the Seminar is Conducted…
First, when you respond to a comment someone made, try to preface it with their first name. For example, if their screen name is Mary Smith, say: Mary - What you say is correct. My perspective is ____”
12
How the Seminar is Conducted…
Second, when you want to ask a question, please use the // symbol and I will call on you. I don’t want to miss any questions!
13
How the Seminar is Conducted…
Third, please refrain from off-topic and sidebar conversation
14
How the Seminar is Conducted…
Fourth, when I ask the entire class a question... No need to raise your hand Everyone should try to respond Student responses should never be one or two words. Most responses like this do not help others to understand what you are saying. Get into the habit of adding value to each and every response you make. Great discussion is what makes our seminars successful!
15
Special Seminar Guidelines
Please do not announce that you are late or that you are leaving the seminar early Why? It tends to take the class off-track because people feel rude if they do not acknowledge you Think about this If you were late in a ground class, would you stop the class to announce when you arrived?
16
Make a point to attend Seminar
Expands on the readings Adds to your understanding of the weekly material A time when we can interact with each other Tips for the discussions and assignments! Although not mandatory, it is part of the coursework Form good habits for your academic career!
17

29
Discussion Expectations
Thoughtful note Just because we set a minimum does not mean this is what you should do. That is for people who are only doing this because it is an assignment, rather than understanding the value of this activity. - - - "No one ever attains very eminent success by simply doing what is required of him; it is the amount and excellence of what is over and above the required that determines the greatness of ultimate distinction." Charles Kendall Adams
30
Discussion Expectations
Check Did you answer the question? Did you answer all parts of the question? It is not uncommon for students to get a little off-track and forget to answer the question asked. Make sure this does not happen to you as it can affect your grade. Suggestion Type it in Microsoft Word - This gives you time to think it through and to correct errors in spelling and/or grammar, which also can affect your grade….and count your words! Copy and paste the text; do not attach a document.
