2 Welcome! Hi! My name is Mr. Tomato, and these are my friends Ms. Lettuce, Mr. Broccoli and Ms. Carrot. We will be your tour guides through out this delicious adventure! Before we begin, there are a few things we need to go over. At the bottom of each slide you will find arrows and a main menu button. Click on these to navigate through the lesson. When ever you see me, or any of my friends, make sure to look at what we are saying. We are here to help! Follow me!

4 Objectives Today we will be learning about what kind of food groups exist and why. As well as some other healthy habits that go hand-in-hand with eating right. MAINMAIN MENU 1)Given a blank food pyramid and a word bank, students will be able to label each section within 3 attempts. 2) Given a matching activity, student will be able to match pictures of foods to each category from the food pyramid within 3 attempts. 3) Given a plate containing four food groups, students will be able to write four sentences about each foods nutritional value, without grammatical error. 7 Grains How much should you eat? Typically for kids between 4-8, you should get 5 ounces per day. What counts as an ounce? MAIN MENUMENU 1 Slice of bread 1 Cup cereal ½ Cup rice

8 Grains What is the nutritional value? They are a source or dietary fiber, B vitamins, and minerals. These all help you grow happy and healthy! MAINMAIN MENU B vitamins help your brain grow strong and healthy.

14 Vegetables How much should you eat? 1 cup raw/cooked, 2 cups leafy, or 1 ½ cups 100% veggie juice. MAIN MENU

15 Vegetables What is the nutritional value? Low in fat and calories No cholesterol Nutrients include: potassium, fiber, vitamins A & C and foliate MAIN MENU Take a look at all the nutritional value vegetables have! These all help keep you and your body happy and healthy!

27 DAIRY What is a dairy food? Dairy is any fluid milk and or food made of milk that retains calcium. What kinds of food are dairy foods? 29 Dairy What is the nutritional value? Dairy has calcium, potassium, and vitamin D. these all help make your bones strong and healthy. MAIN MENUMENU Dairy foods help build strong bones! Fun fact: Ice cream is made from dairy! But you still need to eat other dairy foods to stay healthy

35 Proteins How much should you eat? 4 ounces of proteins should be consumed per day. This could look like: MAIN MENU 4 eggs 4 ounces meat, seafood, poultry 4 teaspoons peanut butter 2-4 ounces of nuts or seeds 1 cup beans

36 Proteins What is the nutritional value? Protein foods have protein, B vitamins, vitamin E, iron, zinc, and magnesium. These all work to make strong bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. MAIN MENUMENU Proteins help make strong bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood!
