Widespread multi-faceted deprivation and labour market inactivity – 100,000 (13%) economically inactive residents of working age in 2014 Below average skill levels High levels of ill health and disability – The proportion of people who are economically inactive because they are long-term sick is higher in the Sheffield City Region than in Great Britain (25.4% vs 21.8%) – Hotspots (i.e. Rotherham) with below average employment rates for people with long-term health conditions. – SCR has lower rates of employment for people with mental health than the national average. – The employment gap for people with learning disabilities is wider in the SCR than in England as a whole.
