4 Ted Harrison Born in England Lives in Victoria, BC Specializes in Canadian landscapes that use bold, contrasting colours – especially of the yukon He specializes in Serigraph prints

5 A Fusion of Artists We are fusing the artistic styles of Mary Wallace and Ted Harrison We will create bright colourful landscapes where the ice is reflecting colours of the sun, just like Ted Harrison’s landscape paintings We will then impose a hand- made Inuksuk over top of our vivid backgrounds to juxtapose the beauty of the arctic, just like Mary Wallace’s paintings The end result will be individual paintings that create new concepts of arctic landscapes

9 The Materials Black construction paper Cardstock/thick white paper for pain Scissors Elmer’s glue – any white liquid glue Pencils for sketching Water paint

10 – First, we need to sketch in pencil our background Focus on separating the colours and imagining either the ‘Northern Lights’ or sunsets – these are beautiful for when ice reflects the colours – Next, cover the pencil lines with white liquid glue – After the glue has dried, we will be using paint (water colour or blocks) to fill in the sections – While our painting is drying, we will cut out our Inukshuk’s out of black construction paper – After the painting has dried, we will glue our Inuksuk onto the painting Instructions

11 Cross Curricular Links to grade four social studies: Northern Canada Links to Science: Focus on ROYGBIV and as many colours that come from that spectrum Focus on reflection of light of of surfaces (sunsets, blue skies, Northern Light, mountains, etc.) Climates and weather patterns represented in our artwork Geology – Rock formations and human manipulation of earth
