2 Irregular Preterite Verbs
There is a whole set of irregular preterite verbs in Spanish. These verbs have NO ACCENTS! THEY ALL HAVE IRREGULAR STEMS. They also have irregular preterite endings. The endings for irregular preterite verbs are: e, iste, o, imos,(isteis) ieron Some of the most commonly used irregular preterite verbs are:-

Estar – to be Poder – to be able to/can Poner – to put Saber – to know (to find out) Tener – to have There are many other irregular preterite verbs. These are just 5 of them.

4 TENER – to have Tuve Tuviste Tuvo – he/she/you had Tuvimos Tuvisteis
I had Tuviste You had Tuvo – he/she/you had Tuvimos We had Tuvisteis You (plural) had Tuvieron

5 ESTAR – To be Estuve Estuviste Estuvo Estuvimos Estuvisteis Estuvieron
I was Estuviste You were Estuvo He/she/you were Estuvimos We were Estuvisteis You all were Estuvieron

6 PODER PONER pude – I could Pudiste – you could Pudo – he/she/you could Pudimos – we could Pudisteis – you all could Pudieron – you all could Puse – I put Pusiste – you put Puso – he/she/you put Pusimos – we put Pusisteis – you all put Pusieron – they put

7 SABER – to know supe supimos supiste supisteis supo supieron
***In the preterite tense, the verb saber has a different meaning. It means to find out. Ex: Yo supe la verdad anoche – I found out the truth last night.
