Fatigue and How to Use It in TRIFLEX® WINDOWS TRIFLEX ® WINDOWS www.pipingsolutions.com 2 TRIFLEX Windows processes the calculation according ASME Code, Section VIII, Division 2, Appendix 5 The results of the calculation are individual usage factors for each load case and a cumulative usage factor for all active load cases A cumulative usage factor greater than 1 means that a fatigue failure is expected in that area of the piping system A fatigue analysis is required by B31.X Codes
3
Fatigue and How to Use It in TRIFLEX® WINDOWS TRIFLEX ® WINDOWS www.pipingsolutions.com 3 From “Setup” task bar, pick “Modeling Default” option Check the box for “Perform Fatigue Analysis”
4
Fatigue and How to Use It in TRIFLEX® WINDOWS TRIFLEX ® WINDOWS www.pipingsolutions.com 4 From “Setup” task bar, pick “Cyclic Loading” option For each active load case input the number of design cycles
5
Fatigue and How to Use It in TRIFLEX® WINDOWS TRIFLEX ® WINDOWS www.pipingsolutions.com 5 TRIFLEX will calculate the alternating stress and usage factors only for active load cases. The cumulative usage factor will apply for all active load cases
6
Fatigue and How to Use It in TRIFLEX® WINDOWS TRIFLEX ® WINDOWS www.pipingsolutions.com 6 From “Code Compliance” Tab select the “Fatigue Curve” which will be used for fatigue calculation
7
Fatigue and How to Use It in TRIFLEX® WINDOWS TRIFLEX ® WINDOWS www.pipingsolutions.com 7 If the fatigue curves from the selection list do not apply to your material, you can input your own data using “Define Custom Curves” option
8
Fatigue and How to Use It in TRIFLEX® WINDOWS TRIFLEX ® WINDOWS www.pipingsolutions.com 8 The “Custom Curves” can be saved to data files. These files can be loaded, edited and used in other piping models
9
Fatigue and How to Use It in TRIFLEX® WINDOWS TRIFLEX ® WINDOWS www.pipingsolutions.com 9 For each Load Case, the output results for the Fatigue calculation are: Alternating Stress, Maximum Allowable Cycles and Usage factor “Cumulative Usage Factor” includes the effects of all active load cases
10
Fatigue and How to Use It in TRIFLEX® WINDOWS TRIFLEX ® WINDOWS www.pipingsolutions.com 10 The output results for the Fatigue calculation can be displayed using color mapped graphics
