The Book Thief By: Markus Zusak Reference – Zusak, M. (2006). The book thief. New York: Alfred A. Knopf. Reading Level – On 8th grade level Connection – This book provides higher level examples of similes, imagery, metaphor, and more. This would be a good text to identify, analyze, and interpret figurative language.

The Hunger Games By: Suzanne Collins Reference – Collins, S. (2008). The Hunger Games. New York: Scholastic Press. Reading Level – On 8th grade level Connection – This story provides a variety of examples of figurative language. Similes, metaphors, and imagery are common literary devices used throughout this text. This is great text to get students identifying figurative language devices.

Reading Level – Above 8th grade level Connection – This is a strong text for higher oder thinking skills, such as analyzing and interpreting a poem as whole. In this poem we find imagery, metaphor, and personification.

Reading Level – On 8th grade level Connection – This text has a wide variety of figurative language devices, including: simile, metaphor, alliteration, assonance, imagery, and personification. This would be a great text to implement a review for students.

Reading Level – On 8th grade level Connection – This text utilizes a great teaching strategy, in order to teach hyperbole.
