Roots, rock, bluegrass Unknown to many people, Africa and banjos are as natural a combination as notes and a staff. Dom Flemons, Rhiannon Giddens and Justin Robinson are three bluegrass musicians who tour nationally and give short history lessons. Their band is called the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Ancient, shriveled and fresh Sultanas made their way to the English-speaking world by way of the Ottoman Empire. These golden raisins made it stateside in 1872, when California vineyardist William Thompson imported a Sultanina seedless grape cutting.
