How does it operate? Who protects the city? Who runs the city? How does the city manage its trash? How does the city get food? How does the city get its power? How do you know when you are in the city limits?

Do the parts of the cell compare to any parts of a city? What cell parts do you remember from yesterday? How many can you relate to the parts of a city?

Each part of the cell has its own function or purpose. The parts of the cell can be compared to the parts of a city based on their similar purpose.

You are going to create your own real or imaginary city. Each part of your city will correspond to a part of the cell. Your city must have: a name a border a ruler (mayor, king, queen) police force or protection make a product have a way to deliver the product power system a way to deal with the garbage

An analogy is a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based. Endoplasmic Reticulum The road represents the endoplasmic reticulum because they are both transportation systems

Choose an Animal Cell City or a Plant Cell City The plant cell will have two extra parts: Cell Wall Chloroplasts You will receive an extra 2 points if you choose the plant cell.

1.Sketch your city in pencil on large computer paper. 2.Label and circle each part of the city 1.A-M for plant cell 2.A-K for animal cell 3.Create a legend in the corner of your city. 4.Color your city completely and neatly

A.City = Cell B.Brick Wall = Cell Wall C.Gate = Cell Membrane D.Air = Cytoplasm E.City Hall = Nucleus F.Police Station = Nuclear Membrane

Legend A: Far Far Away B: Brick Wall C: Environment D: Shrek’s Castle E: Puss-n-boots Security Service F: Gingerbread Man’s Cookie Factory G: Roads H: 3 Blind Mice Delivery Service I: Dragon Power Service (DPS) J: Donkey Recycling A B C D E F H J I G

Your map/picture must be neat, colorful, correctly labeled, and have a legend or key. Use pencil first then color. Be creative! Have fun with it. Past examples included underwater cities prehistoric cities skate parks amusement parks

Cell Essay

Title Your title should be catchy and fun The goal is to hook the reader into reading your paper

Introduction 5 Sentences Sentence 1: hook Sentence 2-4: Give general information about plant or animal cell – Pretend that your audience does not know anything about cells Sentence 5: thesis sentence – I think a school is like a cell because …

Body Explain each part of the cell and make an analogy to your city. Make sure you are detailed and add descriptions.

Conclusion 5 Sentences Sentence 1: Restate your thesis Sentence 2-4: Summary supporting at least 3 ideas from the body. Sentence 5: Choose – Ask the reader a question OR – Challenge the reader to do something

See example of below average essay Cell city project Essay My city best represents a animal cell because it does not have a cell wall or chloroplast. In a animal cell there is no call wall or chloroplast. My city is like a cell because every part in my city does a similar job of that in a cell. In a cell the nucleus acts like the brain or control center and in my city the White House is like the nucleus because in the United States the President and other people in the White House control the rest of the United States. In a cell the nucleolus is where ribosomes are made so for my city because you can't really create a farm the Mid West states represent the nucleolus because that is the region of the United States farms are located. In a cell the chromatin contains the genetic material, the instructions that direct the functions of a cell. In my city the Congress represents the chromatin because they make laws that people have to follow. While a cell has a nuclear membrane to control what goes in and out of the nucleus my city has White House Security who controls who goes in and out of the White House. In a cell the endoplasmic reticulum has the job of catting materials form one part of the cell to another for my city I used curriers because they carry products around in the states. In a cell the lysosome breaks sown old cell parts and releases the substances so they can be used again well for my city I decided that waste management would be best because waste management takes care of the old things we no longer used and they recycle what can be used again such as paper and plastic. Most animal cells do not have a vocoule but I have decided to include it in my cell city. The vacuole is a large storage for the cell, in my city it is represented by a warehouse because people store thing there. In a cell the cytoplasm creates energy, and builds, and transports things to another part of the cell. In my city states act like the cytoplasm because the states build things and crate energy (most), and they all transport things. Ribosomes in a cell produce proteins well in my city farms would be like ribosomes because farms crow crops and crops produce nutrients. The golgi body can be thought of as the mail room because it receives proteins, and newly formed materials from the endoplasmic reticulum, packages them, and sends them to other parts in the cell. In my city I have used the U.S Postal to represent the golgi body because they receive things, package them, and send it off to another part of the United States. Mitochondria makes energy in a cell and in the United States energy is created by solar panels, dams, and windmills so for mitochondria I am using solar panels, dams, and windmills. Finally the last organelle is the cell membrane. The cell membrane controls what goes in and out of the cell, and in my city I used customs because they are the people that allow you in or out of the United States. For these reasons I think my cell city represents a animal cell.
