4 Activity #1: Fiber Treasure Hunt You may use your poster Go up to 9 different classmates and ask him/her a question on your treasure hunt. Write your classmates answer on the back of your treasure hunt. Have your classmate sign the front of your sheet once they answer.

8 How does fiber help prevent heart disease? Dietary fiber helps lower “bad” cholesterol in the blood (this reduces plaque build-up in the arteries).

11 How does a high fiber diet prevent weight gain? Fiber fills you up! (This helps you to eat less) Fiber keeps you full for longer (so you aren’t as hungry and you will eat less) High fiber foods are less “energy dense” (MORE food, fewer calories!)

12 Dietary fiber is... Fiber is the part of the plant that your body can’t digest and absorb. It will pass through your intestines and “sweep” them clean!

13 Fruits and Veggies are: Full of fiber! Full of phytochemicals that help prevent cancer and other chronic diseases.

14 Fruit and Vegetables Rule: Eat at least one fruit and/or vegetable at every meal.

15 Make flashcards to help you study! On your own, cut up this fiber treasure hunt and use the 9 cards as flashcards to study for your quiz next week.

Using the information from your article, back up your claim with a warrant. 4.) Write you claim and warrant on your worksheet. 5.) Go to your designated spot in the room, discuss. 6.) You will receive a number, go to that number’s designated spot in the room. 7.) After listening to everyone’s claim and warrant, choose one other benefit that you also think is a very important benefit of fiber.
