To get online you’ll need the following: A computer A broadband modem / router A phone line A broadband internet service from an ISP (Internet Service Provider)

There are lots of ISPs and lots of different service levels for ‘light’ and ‘heavy’ internet users. ISPs and comparison websites can help you choose the service that’s right for your needs. Beginner

Most now allow your computer to connect wirelessly. If you have a laptop, this means you can go online wherever you are in your home or out and about in cafés or cinemas. Beginner

This shows the unique web address of each web page you visit. Type a web address here, then press ‘Return’ to go to that page. Forward and Back buttons. These let you move between web pages that you have recently visited. A Homepage button. This returns you to your homepage – the first page your web browser shows when it starts. A search bar. Enter text here to search the internet. Beginner

Make sure you know what they mean so you go to the websites you want! www.samsung.com samsung.com is a‘domain name’.The same domain name can have different endings, such as.com.org.net Beginner

Some websites use this to pretend to be the ‘real’ site, but are there for other reasons. This might be to spread a computer virus, or to show unsuitable content. You move from one web page to the next by clicking on web links. Your cursor will change from an arrow to a hand when it’s on a web link. Web links can be text, buttons, or even photos. Beginner
