Good Applications 1. Know the process and the remit: ● Look at the Website www.nihrtcc.nhs.uk ● Read the Guidance Notes ● Then contact the NIHR TCC if any queries 2. Help: ● Expert research support staff within the organisation (finance...) ● Internal peer review, Mock panel ● Research Design Service ● Other websites, other applications and peer review comments
16
Good Applications 3. Time and checking: ● Give yourself enough time – you must meet the deadline ● Are all the questions answered? ● Clear language, grammar, spelling. Do the references in text match the list? 4. Collaborations, training and support: ● Have the appropriate multidisciplinary involvement in the research & supervisory team ● Must have a clear career vision, training plan and support
17
Good Applications Applications are assessed on: Applicant Research Training and Development Environment / Supervision Value for Money Common Weaknesses 1) Failure to show that research addresses important areas for the NHS and will produce results that are likely to generate significant and quantifiable benefit for NHS patients within 5 years of the funding period. 2) Research questions not clear; don’t show the relevance of the aims and objectives. Unrealistic or failure to justify budget and requested resources. 3) Training programme too generic and not suited/specific to the project
