2 EMEA Regional Young Professional Researcher Award Goal To recognize ComSoc members EMEA Region for their research activities in the Field of Interest of the IEEE Communications Society Award Established in 2010 Three recipients awarded in 2011, at Kyoto. Process Nomination by EMEA Regional Chapters Selection by the EMEA Awards Committee Action in 2011 Award being repeated in 2011 and submissions sought by 31 October 2011.. -

3 ComSoc Conferences held in EMEA Region 12 Events organised in the EMEA Region in 2011 - either directly sponsored or co- sponsored by ComSoc To be held in: - Italy (3), Spain (3), Germany (1), Finland (1), Israel (1),Greece (1), Ireland (1), Belgium (1). 2011 IEEE Database of Conferences - ComSoc is associated with 54 conferences in the EMEA Region.

4 EWI –ComSoc Cyber Security Summit London 1-2 June 2011 ComSoc in partnership with EWI (East West Institute) held the Second Worldwide Cyber Security Summit in London. Summit attracted an impressive range of international speakers, distinguished authorities, major industry leaders and government officials Interesting conference model, with Plenary talks, followed by ‘Breakthrough groups’ to elicit specific recommendations for future actions. Several ComSoc members involved in review of papers

5 Joint Conferences with Region 8 IEEE Director Region 8 had sought support for joint conference in Communications in the Region, or tracks on Communications in Regional Conferences. Action outstanding on GIMS and ComSoc Conferences Committee to progress collaboration See Motion later.

6 Competitor Analysis for EMEA An analysis has been conducted on membership and performance of ComSoc chapters in EMEA Region, and interesting trends identified.

17 Two Motions are proposed  Motion 1 is concerned with increasing cooperation with Region 8, by exploring opportunities to partner in Regional conferences.  Motion 2 is concerned with recognising volunteer effort in the EMEA region which is above and beyond the norm.

18 Motion 1  IEEE ComSoc OpCom approves that EMEA Region Director explores the possibility of a joint conference or a track in an IEEE Region 8 Conference devoted to emerging topics in Communications, or on practitioner related subjects, to provide support for ComSoc EMEA members in industry.  Financial implications: None.

19 Motion 2  IEEE ComSoc OpCom approves the establishment of an annual Volunteer Recognition Award given to an IEEE ComSoc Member in the EMEA Region for excellence in volunteer services in support of membership growth.  Financial implications: A plaque and an honorarium of $400.
