4 3. The Treasure Hidden Again But then he paused. He thought of his daily prayer to Allah. After a few moments reflection, he said: “I asked Allah to send me treasure on my hearth. But I have found these riches out in this field. I cannot take these. If Allah wanted me to be rich he would have sent this treasure to my hearth. That was my prayer. I don't think this treasure is for me." Ali tied the cloth back on the jar, buried it in the soil again and walked home. As soon as he arrived home, Ali told his wife how he had torn his shirt and how he had accidentally found the hidden treasure. She was delighted to hear his story. “Show me this wonderful treasure!” she gasped. Then Ali told her that he had returned the treasure to the earth, because it had not arrived on the hearth, as he had prayed for. The treasure must not have been intended for him.
