3. NURSERY SCHOOL For children aged 0-3 years, there are Daycare Centres (crèche). In general daycare centres are public or private. Attendance requires a monthly payment depending on the selected timetable and family income. Nursery School is not compulsory. It is attended by children from 3 to 5 years old. In general schools operate from Monday to Friday with flexible timetables. The main educational activities provided are: body and movement, speech and words, space, time and nature, music, physical activity, arts and crafts, etc..

5. PRIMARY SCHOOL Primary School: It is compulsory and it is attended by children from 6 to 10 years old. It lasts five years. The curriculum includes: Italian, English, Geography, History, maths, science, technology, music, art, physical education and Catholic religion (optional for children of different religions).

7. LOWER SECONDARY SCHOOL Lower Secondary Schoolt is compulsory and it is attended by children from 11 to 13 years old. It lasts three years. Students must pass an exam before moving up to Higher Secondary School.
