3 How we came up with the 55,000 Degree goal  At the start we had 116,000 Bachelor Degree* holders – or 30% of working age adults (ages 25-64)  We need 40,000 additional to reach our 40% goal by 2020  We had 38,500 Associate Degree holders – or 7% of working age adults  We need 15,000 additional to reach our 10% goal by 2020  That’s a total of 55,000 more degrees, resulting in 50% of our working age adults with college degrees * holders of Bachelor’s Degree or above

5 Tracking Progress through the Education Data Dashboard on www.55000Degrees.org  College-going culture: high school graduation rates, transition to college, top colleges attended  Business leverage: participation in Degrees at Work, working age college enrollment  College readiness: ACT scores and benchmarks, students who are college-ready, remediation  Affordability & accessibility: average costs, scholarships & net costs, college-access center stats  College persistence/performance: college graduation and retention rates

6 The city steps up  To help more city employees earn degrees every year  Ramping up from the current pace of 39 to 47 per year  For a total of 64 more by 2020 (from 312 to 376)  To help in other ways  Community Action Partnership and Housing Authority (60+ scholarships)  Louisville Education and Employment Partnership (1000 students at-risk of dropping out of high school)  Close the Deal initiative (6 high schools)  Community Schools (8 JCPS schools)  Metropolitan College (with UPS and state)  Supporting Out-of-School-Time programming for more information go to
