2. History  The Oriental Institute was opened on October 21, 1899.  Far Eastern State University's Faculty of Medicine was established in 1958  In 1964, the Vladivostok Branch of the Plekhanov Moscow Institute of the National Economy was established.  The Far Eastern Institute of Soviet Trade (FEIST ) was founded in its stead in 1968  In the years following its establishment, the Far Eastern Institute of Soviet Trade changed its name and status multiple times  In 1991 it became the Far Eastern Institute of Commerce (FEIC); in 1996, the Far Eastern State Academy of Economics and Management (FESAE M); and, finally in 2004, it became the Pacific State University of Economics (PSUE)  On October 21, 2009, President Medvedev issued the edict to establish FEFU on the foundation of Far Eastern National University.
