1
Meter, Sensor & Transducer Applications
2
Module Objectives Upon successful completion of this module, students should be able to: List everyday applications of meters, sensors and transducers Demonstrate understanding of meter, sensor and transducer Applications through experiments
3
Sensors at Airport Guess What are the Sensors used at airport
4
Visibility Sensor Used in airport systems around the world for airport visibility and in Runway Visual Range (RVR).
5
Wind Sensor Provide information on winds and turbulence
6
Metal Detector
7
Thermal sensors and many more
8
Introduction to Meter Meters are used for real world measurements
9
Sound Meter
10
Heart Beat Measurement ECG
11
What you cannot measure Stress on the brain of human being Love Quantity of air in the atmosphere Water in sea No. of Fish in the sea Stars in the sky
12
Meter Application
13
Testing a Car Battery If the voltage of the car battery is below 12.5 V, it is required to recharge the battery. A fully charged car battery will read at least 12.6 V on the digital multimeter
14
Testing for continuity Testing of continuity helps in detecting broken wire, open wire, blown fuses, damaged diodes etc.
15
Sensors and Transducer Application
16
Ultrasonic sensors
17
Other applications involve detecting the presence of a person, and opening a door or detecting the presence of a car in a car wash station.
18
Detecting presence of materials Detecting presence of materials/objects is very important in automation industries Optical proximity sensors are used for counting boxes, breakage and jam detection
19
Proximity Sensors A proximity sensor is a sensor able to detect the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact.sensor Inductive Sensors principle Capacitive Sensors principle
20
Detecting presence of materials Inductive proximity sensors are used to detect the presence of metals while Capacitive proximity sensors are used to detect metal and even non-metallic objects such as wood, paper, liquid and so on. However, the detection range of inductive and capacitive proximity sensors is very small.
21
Lab Activity-1 Objective To use multimeter for the following To test the battery and determine the percentage of battery To test continuity of power cord To test the light emitting diode
22
Lab Activity-2 Objective: To detect objects within a certain range using the ultrasonic sensors
