Manuals Three manuals are provided for this administration:  Fall 2011 Reading & Mathematics Retake Test Administration Manual (Fall 2011 Retake Manual - printed and posted)  Instructions for paper-based accommodations (regular print, large print, braille, and one-item-per-page) and for schools participating in paper-based administration of Reading Retake  Fall 2011 Reading & Mathematics Retake Computer-Based Test Administration Manual (Fall 2011 CBT Manual - printed and posted)  Instructions for computer-based administration  Fall 2011 Computer-Based Test Accommodations Guide (Fall 2011 Accommodations Guide - posted only)  Instructions for computer-based accommodated test forms (large print, color contrast, zoom, screen reader, assistive devices) Information from all three documents is included in these training materials.

Manuals

What’s New for Fall 2011 See the appropriate test administration manual for more details. District and school personnel must be familiar with all three manuals, as applicable. The four-function calculators distributed by the FDOE, formerly referred to as “FCAT calculators,” are now called “approved four- function calculators” and are the only calculators that can be used for this administration (except for approved calculators for students with visual impairments). Students are now required to sign/agree to a pledge that states that they will not “give or receive unauthorized help” and they acknowledge that such help is cheating. Schools must ensure students take the correct Reading Retake test (FCAT or FCAT 2.0). Check the test books carefully before distributing (paper-based) and/or ensure students are assigned to the correct form (computer-based).

The FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake is divided into two sessions and must be administered over two days. Test administrators must carefully monitor students to ensure they do not work in the wrong session.  For the computer-based FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake delivered via TestNav, a seal code is used to separate the sessions.  For the accommodated computer-based FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake delivered via TestHear, test administrators must ensure students only complete questions 1-27 on Session 1 (day 1) and complete questions 28-53 on Session 2 (day 2). There are no seals or stop signs between sessions.  For the paper-based FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake, Session 2 of the test and answer book is sealed. What’s New for Fall 2011

Test administrators must maintain an accurate seating chart for each group of students testing in the same room. In the Fall 2011 Retake Manual, Special Documents Instructions have been organized into test administrator and school assessment coordinator sections. Test administrator instructions for administering tests to students using large print materials (paper-based) have been enhanced. The FCAT/FCAT 2.0 Administration and Security Agreement has been revised to emphasize the importance of proper training and possible consequences of test administration irregularities. The “pallet detail” is now called the “shipment detail” because it is provided for all shipments, not just those containing pallets. Accommodated computer-based test forms (large print, color contrast, zoom, screen reader, assistive devices) will be accessed using TestHear software. Instructions are in the Fall 2011 Accommodations Guide. What’s New for Fall 2011

See the appropriate test administration manual for more details on all reminders. For paper-based and computer-based administrations: Inappropriate actions by school or district personnel before, during, or after test administration may result in consequences including test invalidations and/or loss of teaching certification. Students may not have any electronic or recording devices at their desks, in their pockets, or anywhere they can reach them during testing, even if the devices are turned off or the students do not use them. If a student begins a test and leaves campus without finishing, he or she will NOT be allowed to complete that test. Forms and materials for test administration can be found at www.FLAssessments.com/FallRetake. www.FLAssessments.com/FallRetake Manuals must be provided to itinerant teachers in time for them to prepare, and itinerant teachers must be included in test administrator training. School assessment coordinators and test administrators must maintain certain required administration information, as directed by the district assessment coordinator. Reminders for Fall 2011

For computer-based testing only: Test Administrator user accounts were created on September 23, 2011 for PearsonAccess. Students are required to participate in a practice test (ePAT) using the script provided in the manual. Students can request a hand-held calculator to use on the day of testing. Schools will supply photocopies of the reference sheet to students. CBT: Reminders for Fall 2011

For paper-based testing only: You will receive a set of PreID labels for each paper-based test being administered. Affix the label to the correct test for that student.  If a label is affixed to the wrong book, it CANNOT be used by another student. Do not remove the label. Return it with other NOT TO BE SCORED materials and grid the PreID information on a replacement test and answer book.  The following categories must be correct on a label in order for it to be used: Student Name, Student ID Number, District Number, and School Number. School assessment coordinators and test administrators must track security numbers of secure test documents. Test administrators and school assessment coordinators must refer to the Special Documents section of the manual for large print, braille, and one-item-per-page responsibilities. Pre-populated Administration Record/Security Checklists are provided in PearsonAccess. PBT: Reminders for Fall 2011

This test must be administered in 2 sessions over 2 days.  Students should be permitted one-half of a regular school day for each session. The paper-based test does not have a stop sign, but Session 1 and Session 2 are sealed separately. Students should NOT break the second seal until day 2. The computer-based test has an electronic seal between the two sessions. Students EXIT the test on their first day of testing and must be resumed in PearsonAccess and must have the correct seal code to continue to Session 2 on day 2. The accommodated computer-based test does not have an electronic seal between sessions. Students must be monitored and reminded to complete questions 1-27 on day 1 and questions 28-53 on day 2. The Session signs include the question numbers for each session. FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake

In Session 1, students will only be able to click “Next Section” from the Go To screen. Once they proceed beyond the Go To screen, they cannot return to Session 1. TestNav will show 3 sections of the test with answered/unanswered questions.  Section 1 is the Welcome screen/student pledge/test group code section.  Section 2 is questions 1-27 (Session 1).  Section 3 is questions 28-53 (Session 2). FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake Electronic Seal Code

The Session 2 Seal Code screen includes a stop sign and a box to enter the seal code. Students cannot return to Session 1 from this screen. Test administrators should not post the seal code until instructed to do so in the script on day 2. FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake Electronic Seal Code

School Assessment Coordinator Before Testing FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake Session Length: Each session of the FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake may take up to half of a typical school day. You are responsible for determining the precise time frames for half-day sessions at your school and provide test administrators with specific starting and stopping times. Seating Charts: Ensure that test administrators maintain a separate seating chart for each session of the FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake. Session Signs: Session signs are only used for FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake, and they remind students of the questions included in each session (Session 1 is 1-27; Session 2 is 28-53).  Paper-based tests include two external seals to designate the sessions. There are no stop signs or other indications of the session break.  Regular computer-based tests will require a seal code to access Session 2.  Accommodated computer-based tests will not have a seal code or an indication of the session break. Test administrators must monitor students to ensure they work in the correct session. CBT: Seal Codes: Four-digit seal codes allow students access to Session 2 of the FCAT 2.0 Reading computer-based test after they have completed Session 1. Students must be resumed in PearsonAccess prior to beginning Session 2.

School Assessment Coordinator Before Testing Training Train Test Administrators and Proctors Must be trained on all applicable content in the following:  Fall 2011 CBT Manual  Fall 2011 Retake Manual  Fall 2011 Accommodations Guide (If Applicable) Returning paper-based materials. CBT: Monitoring test sessions and resuming students in PearsonAccess  School coordinators will resume students as needed and may require test administrators to contact them during testing to request this authorization.  Test administrators may resume students if PearsonAccess accounts have been created by the School coordinator.

School Assessment Coordinator Before Testing CBT: Training Train Test Administrators and Proctors (for CBT) Securing a student’s computer if a student leaves the room and will resume testing Recommended  Long breaks: student must exit the TestNav system by clicking the X or the red circle in the top corner and then clicking Yes, exit the test  Student will not be able to continue testing until he/she is authorized to resume testing in PearsonAccess.  Short breaks: visual block (e.g., a file folder) must be applied to obscure the computer screen or turn off the monitor Accessing student comment forms after testing (www.FLAssessments.com/RetakeStudentCommentForm).www.FLAssessments.com/RetakeStudentCommentForm

School Assessment Coordinator Before Testing CBT: Training Train Test Administrators and Proctors (for CBT) T est administrators are instructed to contact you in the following circumstances:  A student has not participated in a practice test session.  A student has trouble logging in the first time.  A student cannot see the shading on the Test Group Code screen.  A test administrator does not have a Student Authorization Ticket for a student.  A Student Name or Student ID is not correct (e.g., misspelled) on the Student Authorization Ticket.  A test administrator is concerned that a student is unable (e.g., too ill) to finish the test.  A student Exits the test to finish later and logs out of the test session.  A student is in the wrong test session. Provide instructions for test administrators to handle these circumstances.

School Assessment Coordinator Before Testing CBT: PearsonAccess Create Test Sessions Three ways of organizing test sessions 1.By Test Group – only includes students in a particular group (e.g., class, testing room) who will be testing together Advantage: PearsonAccess can be used to manage the testing groups, and session rosters will include only one group of students testing together. PearsonAccess can also be used to distinguish between students taking regular computer-based form (Main) and the accommodated forms. Disadvantage: will require setup and management of more sessions 2.By Test Day – includes all students in a school to be tested in a subject on a particular day Advantage: greater security because a session can be started and stopped on the same day Disadvantage: requires coordination of testing groups at the school

School Assessment Coordinator Before Testing CBT: PearsonAccess Create Test Sessions (continued) 3.By Test Administration – includes all students scheduled to be tested in a subject during the entire test administration Advantage: limits setup and management to one session and additional make-up sessions do not need to be created Disadvantage: test sessions are open and active during the entire testing window, which may present a security concern; greater coordination of testing groups at schools; and may be cumbersome to locate and manage specific students

School Assessment Coordinator Before Testing CBT: PearsonAccess Create a New Test Session 1.Log in to PearsonAccess, select Fall 2011 Retakes administration. 2.Go to Test Management>Manage Test Sessions. 3.Click New Session to go to the New Test Sessions screen.

School Assessment Coordinator Before Testing CBT: Assigning Accommodated Forms Creating an Accommodated Test Session (instructions in the Fall 2011 Accommodations Guide): If your school will set up test sessions by test group, all students requiring accommodated computer-based test forms (including assistive devices) will need to be in a separate session and in a separate testing room from students who are using non- accommodated CBT forms. (Separate sessions/rooms are required because the students require different scripts.) If your school will set up test sessions by test day or by test administration, it is not necessary to create a separate session for students who require accommodated CBT forms. Follow the instructions for assigning an accommodated form for each student.

TestHear will not work on Mac OS X 10.4 or on Macs that cannot also run Windows. For students requiring the screen reader, the computer must be equipped with an audio card and headphones. For an optimal student experience, any computer that takes a noticeably long period of time (e.g., more than 10 seconds) to start and run applications, even computers which meet the requirements, should not be used for high- stakes computer-based testing, if possible. The testing platform does not permit access to other applications during testing. This means that any applications that may automatically launch during testing will interrupt the student’s testing session, logging the student out of the test.

Technology Coordinator Before Testing Monitor Display and Shading To ensure students will see all of the content in the test, students are asked to confirm that they can see 15% shading on the Test Group Code screen when they first log in to the test. If students cannot see the shading, they must exit the test and their monitor settings must be adjusted. General instructions for adjusting monitor settings are provided on pgs. 128-129 (Fall 2011 CBT Manual). The steps for changing contrast and brightness settings will vary depending on the manufacturer and model of each individual monitor.

Technology Coordinator Before Testing Proctor Caching Proctor Caching Security  Proctor Caching software stores a copy of the test content on the local hard drive of the machine on which it runs.  Test content transmitted and stored by the Proctor Caching computer is in encrypted format.  At no time does the Proctor Caching computer un-encrypt the test items.  “Purge cache” function deletes all encrypted test content from the hard drive of the Proctor Caching computer.  FDOE and Pearson require that test content be purged at the end of each administration window and will be completed by the District IT team.

Technology Coordinator Before Testing TestHear ePATs Students are required to participate in a practice test using the ePAT with the same accommodations that will be provided to them on the operational assessment.
