PayModernisation NHS Wales Working in Partnership 4 The Working Week(1) Average 37.5 hours 10 sessions of 3 to 4 hours each Typically 7 sessions direct clinical care, 3 sessions supporting professional activities Scope for flexible working Additional/ external duties by agreement

PayModernisation NHS Wales Working in Partnership 5 The Working Week(2) Fee paying work - no double payments covers Category 2, Family Planning fees etc. But fee may be retained if carried out in uncontracted time eg domiciliary visits or if minimal disruption eg post mortems otherwise fee remitted to employer

PayModernisation NHS Wales Working in Partnership 6 The Working Week(3) ‘Supporting professional activity’ sessions may be scheduled outside normal hours Locations agreed in job planning Exclusively devoted to NHS work Additional sessions may be agreed

PayModernisation NHS Wales Working in Partnership 7 Flexibility Allows flexible time-tabling eg annualised hours term time working ‘consultant of the week’ arrangements varying types of work or numbers of sessions at different times of year To be agreed with the Consultant in light of service needs

PayModernisation NHS Wales Working in Partnership 8 Pay Progression Salary scale comprises: 6 (annual) incremental points, then 8 Commitment Awards available every three years after successful job plan reviews

PayModernisation NHS Wales Working in Partnership 9 Commitment Awards Available once reach top of scale Open to all consultants Linked to satisfactory appraisal and job plan review Depends on continued employment in NHS Wales Overwhelming majority expected to achieve

PayModernisation NHS Wales Working in Partnership 10 Clinical Excellence Awards Joint England & Wales scheme except no local CEAs as in England Four levels; bronze, silver, gold, platinum Different eligibility criteria in Wales Not dependent on previous Commitment Awards

PayModernisation NHS Wales Working in Partnership 11 Planned Additional Sessions Where the Health Board/Trust requires, may be agreed Will be voluntary May be undertaken in uncontracted time Payment to be locally agreed In reality plain time rates

PayModernisation NHS Wales Working in Partnership 12 On Call / Emergency Work(1) Regular and predictable work to be programmed into sessions on prospective basis Average of 3 hours worked will be equivalent to 1 session in basic working week If more than this, is on-call appropriate?
