Chapter 3 Section 1: The Southern Colonies
Jamestown was the first permanent English colony in North America, it was formed by a group called the London Company, which was a Joint-Stock company. Why was a joint stock company a good idea? Chapter 3 Section 2: The New England Colonies
Pilgrims and Puritans both left England and eventually formed the Massachusetts Bay Colony, answer the following questions that led to the colony. What was the purpose of the Mayflower Compact? How did Native Americans help the Pilgrims? Why did Pilgrims leave England? What factors helped make the Puritans successful? What happened during the Great Migration? Why did Puritans leave England? Chapter 3 Section 4: Life in the English Colonies
In this section you will see how the English Government exerted its power over its colonies in North America. The English Monarch (king or queen) had ultimate power over the colonies. Each colonial government was granted its power by a charter. Write how the Governor got their job for each type of colony.
