5 Amadas and Barlowe Expedition PURPOSE/ a colony to provide wealth for England ( a base for attacking Spanish ships) Queen Elizabeth I allows Walter Raleigh to take up the charter “to discover and inhabit strange lands” The job of Amadas and Barlowe was discovering a suitable place for the future colnies

6 The Ralph Lane Colony Commanded by Ralph Lane and Richard Grenville/John White was also along Established on Roanoke Island Problems: low on food, trouble with the Native Americans and poor leadership Returned to England with Sir Francis Drake in June of 1586

7 “The Lost Colony” John White was Governor of the colony 117 men, women and children leave Plymouth, England on April 26, 1587 Virginia Dare was the 1 st European child born in the New World
