1
Action plan Implementing the ELP 25 September 2004 Graz/Österreich
2
Implementation of ELP will probably be a temporary problem If the ELP does what it should do than it proofs itself Learners who start working with ELP on primary level will keep on working with it If it is not possible to let ELP become part of (school)curriculum we might have a problem (in the short term) –The schools are probably the only (?) way to implement ELP
3
Points of attention of an action plan 1.Make clear what the goals are (e.g. 15% 50%) 2.Formulate goals for different target groups –School –World of work –Parents 3.Try to express what the benefits of using the ELP are. (What kind of problem will be solved?) 4.Develop a communication plan (Who should be convinced of what? What are the best ways?
4
Conditions (Validated) ELP necessary. (You can not sell a product that only exists in the minds of developers) Make sure it is available for the target group(s) Finances
5
Target group: school Learners Motivation, self assessment, learning to learn, planning (objectives of teachers unless they can be 'translated' in positive learner goals ) Use ELP in world of work (in …. years) –Hardly an argument for younger learners
6
Understand function of parts of portfolio Focus on what learner is able to (positive feelings) Make clear this is 'European activity' Make clear what the (short term) benefit will be Relate the textbook to the CEF Use learners as experts in implementation process Make clear the ELP is part of the curriculum Give ELP additional value
7
Target group: school School management Benefits for management –Get clear educational (language) standards –Possible coping with diversity –Get the language teachers 'on the move' –Get coherence between languages learned at school –Set up goals for shorter periods –'doorlopende leerlijnen' Commitment necessary because of facilitating teachers
8
Target group: school Teachers : are key persons Needs: Let them make experiences with ELP themselves Make them understand the idea of CEF Let them know what role of ELP is Let them get an open mind for changes in FL- learning Let them know they are the key persons Let them find out: more open curriculum is necessary But it should not be a 'lonely' struggle
9
Possible actions Make some teachers 'experts' in their schools Provide them with all kinds of information –Training –Learning materials –Use their expertise
10
Communication plan All actions/interventions have a reason Different actions for different target groups Different target groups ask for different actions
11
Possible actions (communication plan) Newsletter (electronic or traditional) for teachers in the project and teachers (or others) who are interested Information platform to share positive feelings and exchange solutions Informative articles in press (national and local) (parents/employers) Show good practises (parents/employers) Let parents get experiences with ELP
12
Inform platforms of employers –flyers Let them make experiences Show international transparency Organize conferences with as much as possible impact.
