N UTRITION Growing and being healthy requires a proper diet. Kids should know that a balanced nutrition can lead to strong bones, strength, endurance and beautiful skin. Nutrition is essential for kids because proper nutrition helps prevent illness and disease, and affect their growth and development. More than one-third of adults and almost 17% of youth were obese in 2009-2010

T HE FOOD GROUPS Fruit-Any fruit or 100% fruit juice counts as part of the Fruit Group. It can protect you again certain types of cancer and heart disease Vegetable-Any vegetable or 100% vegetable juice counts as a member of the Vegetable Group May reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. Gains- Any food made from wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley or another cereal grain is a grain product. Eating whole grains may help with weight management.

T HE FOOD GROUPS Proteins- All foods made from meat, poultry, seafood, beans and peas, eggs, processed soy products, nuts, and seeds are considered part of the Protein Foods Group Proteins function as building blocks for bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood.
