OLD FIRE San Bernardino Mountains 2003

DISCLAIMER This slide show presentation has been prepared and organized by Bob Bernier. I did not take the photos, I only compiled them, created the show and added the titles. I would like to give credit to the photographers, however their identity is unknown to me. This is what our mountain looked like….for over a week. Enjoy the show! Bob

DEDICATION This presentation is dedicated to all of our friends, neighbors and relatives, who are the victims of all of the fires that ravaged California. The nation sat on the edge of its seat, while the “Firestorm from Hell” moved relentlessly through the mountains and the passes and the cities, leaving in its wake, a path of destruction that spanned an area from the ocean to the desert and from the southern to the central part of the State. To the friends and family of those who lost their lives; we mourn with you. To those who lost their property and precious memories; our thoughts, hearts, support and prayers go out to you. Mother Nature and time will heal the wounds and scars to our homes, cities and forests. May God heal the wounds and scars that we carry in our hearts.

Thanks from the Firefighters The Crest Forest Professional Firefighters would like to thank the Crest Forest Fire Districts Paid Call Firefighter for their efforts. We all worked very hard and on very little sleep for almost a week to protect our community. We would also like to thank our neighboring agencies (California Department of Forestry, US Forest Service & the San Bernardino County and City Fire Department) as well as the other brave men and women that came from as far as Northern California, Arizona & Nevada. We thank you, our department thanks you, and our community that you helped us protect will always thank you. And a very special thanks to our community and families for their support and prayers that kept us safe and gave us the strength to continue on. And for those of you that have lost your homes (including one of our own) we only wish that we could have done more. Your Firefighters

THANK YOU: TO ONE AND ALL To the firefighters who came from everywhere to fight this monstrous blaze; often with little food and almost a week without much sleep. To the Red Cross and to the many volunteers who cared for the tens of thousands of evacuees. To the Highway Patrol, Sheriffs, and all of the law enforcement agencies who enacted the safe, smooth and efficient evacuation of an entire mountain. To SCE for their miraculous restoration of power in the face of tremendous obstacles. To the water utilities, primarily LACSD and CLAWA, who remained on the mountain through the entire event to ensure the availability of water for fire protection. To all of the support services who supplied food, fuel, and other necessities to the crews. To Caltrans and County Roads for the speedy clean up and repairs to the roads and highways. To God for calming the winds and bringing in the clouds, cooler temperatures and the rain. WE THANK YOU ALL!!!

THE END
