Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act to ensure worker and workplace safety. The act makes sure employers provide their workers a place of employment without recognized hazards to safety and health, such as exposure to toxic chemicals, excessive noise levels, mechanical dangers, heat or cold stress, or unsanitary conditions. The OSHA has been enacted since 1970 as a national law.

Enforcement In order to establish standards for workplace health and safety, the Act also created the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as the research institution for the Occupational Safety and Health(OSHA). The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is the federal agency responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related injury and illness.
